Supporting MOM During the COVID-19 Crisis

Supporting MOM During the COVID-19 Crisis
April 16, 2020 MOM News

As we kick off our 2020-21 fiscal year, and celebrate our 40th year of serving our community, we are recommitting to addressing the increasing food security and housing stability needs. We launched a planned expansion and outreach effort to ensure those we serve, especially in communities of color, have access to our services, and a strengthened commitment to our values of equity, dignity and social justice.

However, due to the current COVID-19 crisis, we have had to pivot to address more immediate and unforeseen challenges. Our Housing Stability program continues offsite. Our new Outreach and Advocacy Case Manager is working to connect offsite locations with our work, even remotely. While staff members are working from home, case management is being done via phone and email. The need for MOM’s services continues to grow and we are anticipating spending nearly 100% more funds in our Housing Stability program than we did two years ago.

These are challenging times for all of us at MOM and in our community. We are working to remain agile in the face of shifting priorities, schedules and operations. I hope you’ve had an opportunity to visit our coronavirus updates page, which details many of the changes we continue to make to maximize our resources and continue to serve our neighbors, which will be especially vital as this crisis continues. We have had to close our normal Food Pantry shopping operations and instead are offering pre-packaged boxes of food to our neighbors to ensure less contact between volunteers and clients alike. The distribution is much safer and includes many needed staples, both shelf-stable and refrigerated.

We are committed to serving our community including those in need of emergency food, especially as the financial stability of many of our neighbors is being shaken. Your continued support has been, and will be critical, as we work through the current challenges. Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to all of you who have asked how you can help, and have already stepped up with financial donations to ensure our important work goes on.

Your gift will allow MOM will continue to provide rent assistance and advocacy to prevent evictions and offer nutritious food for individuals and families – food that is so critical to the growth and development of children. We appreciate your continued generosity.

Thank you for caring.

-Ellen Carlson, Executive Director
