Charmaine’s journey hasn’t been easy. By the time Charmaine turned 18, she was living on her own with a baby. Years later as a single mother of three, Charmaine remains determined to maintain a stable home for her kids. “I don’t want it to be so hard for them,” Charmaine explained. Sometimes this has meant working an overnight shift at a gas station, then heading straight to her second job providing home care.

When she has needed help along her journey, Charmaine has been able to rely on MOM. “MOM has always been there for me,” Charmaine said, “whether it was a trip to the Food Pantry or help with a utility bill.” One time, Charmaine remembers receiving a printer through the Winter Wishes program. “It may seem like little things but these things weren’t little to me at the time,” she said.

Charmaine’s hard work is paying off. This past May, Charmaine graduated from MATC with an Associates in Arts & Sciences – the first member of her family ever to get a college degree. She was also selected as a finalist in the Madison College Challenge for her new business idea. With official Articles of Organization, a logo, business cards, uniforms and employees, her home care business, Loyal Hearts LLC, is already on its way to success. Here at MOM, we are thrilled we could cheer her on along her journey.
